FLY FISHING
Lyons has some amazing fly fishing right in town on the St Vrain Creek. Both North St Vrain up highway 36 and South St Vrain up highway 7 offer a plethora of high quality fishing holes. We recommend contacting Front Range Anglers or Rocky Mountain Anglers to maximize your experience on the river. And remember to get a fishing license before casting into our creeks.
Fly Fishing Hotel In Lyons
Fishing is one of the most popular activities of the guests that stay here at the adventure lodge in Lyons and for good reason, with quick access to the St. Vrain State Park as well as the entire river, the lakes, and ponds of Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) and the Indian Peaks this region is a fisherman’s paradise.
Because of this location to so many different types of fish and bodies of water combined with an on-premises beer garden and food trucks, not to mention comfortable suites with complete kitchens so you can get out early the A-Lodge in Lyons has become a bit of a fly fishing hotel in Colorado.
The ponds at St. Vrain State Park are a popular family fishing spot as they are stocked with bluegill and black crappie, fish that are easier to catch for beginners allowing them to build some confidence and skill before moving on to the more challenging fish such as rainbow trout where advanced fly fishing skills are required. Other ponds are stocked with trout, bass, walleye, and assorted panfish thanks to the Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife so you can have a variety of experiences each day or even in the same day as the lakes and ponds are all so close to each other.
If you are looking for an adventure we recommend going to RMNP. There are 15 square miles of spectacular mountain environments with some tucked away corners that if you are willing to hike you will have a lake all to yourself. Our location is ideal as it allows you access to several of the park entryways without having to deal with the overrun town of Estes Park. If you are wanting a quainter experience without dealing with the traffic or Estes let us be our fly fishing hotel base, we promise you will not regret it.
Wild Trout Waters & A Beer Garden!
If you prefer stream fishing there are 3 branches of the St Vrain Creek that ultimately flow in to the South Platte River. South St. Vrain creek has its headwaters in the Indian Peaks, a majestic group of 13,000-foot peaks that make what is known as the lake country near Brainard Lake. With paid parking to keep the crowds down and established trails this branch is considered to have the best public access of all three branches of the creek.
The North branch starts in RMNP a little south of the 14,000 foot Longs Peak. The scenery here is about as quintessential Colorado as you will find with the sheer granite face of Longs known as The Diamond standing proud above. The waters of the St. Vrain runs through a steep canyon and the dense national park forest requiring a bit of a hike but the reward is worth it, this is a special place and a special fishing experience. This area is designated by the Colorado Department of Wildlife as official Wild Trout waters.
Middle St. Vrain Creek also begins in the Indian Peaks Wilderness area and flows east to Peaceful Valley not far from our location. Getting here is fast and easy, and the cutthroats love the pools that dot the creek on both sides making great fishing holes.
After your day in the wild come back to the property to find a comfortable suite where you can clean up and make dinner or walk right into town for dinner out. Be careful with the ease of the Rock Garden to quench your thirst and swap stories with fellow outdoorsman some anglers rarely make it off the property in the evening.
