Accessible Winter Adventure
Snowshoeing is one of the most accessible winter sports there is. If you are here on a Boulder winter vacation and are looking to get out in the mountains but are not a skier this is the sport for you.
With skiing there is so much equipment to manage, there is a steep learning curve, there is the risk of getting hurt, there is a fitness requirement and there is of course the expense. Then there is the lift experience which some people find daunting and others find the mechanical nature of it impedes their connection with nature.
With Nordic skiing there is almost as steep of a learning curve but the fitness requirements are even higher and for those coming from lower elevations trying to perform this cardio-intensive sport at altitude can be almost impossible.
Snowshoeing on the other hand provides an affordable way to get into the mountains in the middle of winter and enjoy this breathtakingly beautiful season without the risks and requirements of these other winter sports. All you need is some warm clothes, a good pair of boots and a pair of snowshoes and off you go. If you do not have a pair of snowshoes stop by the front desk as we have a limited number of pairs that you can borrow.
When you go snowshoeing there are no lift lines to deal with or lifts to ride, you simply drive up to a trailhead, strap on your shoes and away you go.
Boulder Winter Vacation
Bring a pack and enjoy a picnic lunch among the pines for a truly serene experience. With the bountiful amount of sun we receive in Colorado, you can have winter days that are extremely pleasant even when the temperatures are not above freezing.
From the A-Lodge you can access trails to snowshoe on in every direction. Closer to Boulder the shady side of Green Mountain offers miles of trails while up towards Nederland and in the Indian Peaks there are even more trails that receive around 300 inches of snow a year making them a winter wonderland.
If you have not been to Rocky Mountain National Park going in the winter can be a great way to experience its magnificent beauty with a fraction of the crowds that the park experiences in the summer. If you would like an experience that includes a little bit of education about our wild mountain environment Eldorado Mountain Resort offers tours that include information about the area’s ecology and history. If you are daunted by getting on snowshoes for the first time these tours can be a great way to pick up tips to move efficiently in snow in the mountains as well.
If you are not a skier but would like to experience a Boulder winter vacation this sport offers you a great way to get out in the mountains and onto the snow. Stay at the A-Lodge and you have great proximity to the trails, to all that Boulder has to offer and in the most natural setting of any Boulder hotel available.
